HAYLEY JENSEN CODE OF ETHICS FOR PROFESSIONAL INTERIOR DESIGN CONDUCT

1.0 PREAMBLE

As an Interior Design Professional I shall conduct my interior design practice in a manner that will encourage the respect of clients, fellow interior designers, the interior design industry and the general public. It is my sole responsibility to abide by the Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct, Bylaws, Policies and Position Statements of the Industry Recognised Interior Design Associations and Governing Bodies.

 

2.0 DEFINITIONS

The terms used in this Code shall be defined in the same manner in which they are defined in the Bylaws, Policies and Position Statements of the Industry Recognised Interior Design Associations and Governing Bodies.

 

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY TO THE PUBLIC

In conducting my professional tasks and services, I shall exercise reasonable care and competence, and shall conform to existing laws, regulations and codes governing the profession of interior design as established by such governing body or other jurisdiction in which they conduct business.

In conducting my professional tasks and services, I shall at all times consider the health, safety, and welfare of the my client and the public.

In conducting my professional tasks and services, I shall not knowingly violate the law or counsel or assist clients in conduct they know or reasonably should know is illegal.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall not permit my name or signature to be used in conjunction with a design or project for which the said interior design services were are not to be, or were not performed under my immediate direction and or control.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall not engage in any form of false or misleading advertising or promotional activities and shall not imply, through advertising or other means, that staff members or employees of my company are accredited Professional or Associate Members of such recognised Design Associations unless such is the fact.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall not make misleading, deceptive or false statements or claims about my or my staff members professional qualifications, experience, or performance.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall not, by act or failure to act, engage or participate in any conduct pertaining to or involving, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation and or dishonesty in my professional or business capacity as an Interior Design professional.

In performing my professional tasks and services, I shall refuse to consent to any decision by clients or employers which violates any applicable law or regulation, and which, in the Professional Interior Designers judgment, will create a significant risk to public health and safety.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall not attempt to obtain a contract to provide interior design services through unlawful means not assist any person seeking to fraudulently obtain a contract to provide interior design services through unlawful means.

 

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY TO THE CLIENT:

As an Interior Design professional I shall undertake to perform my tasks and professional services only when they, together with consultants, are qualified by education, training or experience to perform the services required. I shall always conduct my services and tasks with the clients best interest paramount.

Before accepting an assignment, I shall reasonably inform the client of the scope and nature of the project involved, the interior design services to be performed, and the method of remuneration for those services. As an Interior Design professional I shall not materially change the scope of a project without the client’s consent.
As an Interior Design Professional I shall always strive to continually improve and update my professional knowledge and industry skill sets.

Prior to an engagement, I shall disclose, in writing, to my client, any direct or indirect financial interest that I may have that could affect impartiality in specifying project-related goods or services, and shall not knowingly assume or accept any position in which my personal interests conflict with professional duty. If the client objects to such financial or other interest, I shall either terminate such interest, or withdraw from such engagement.

Prior to an engagement, I shall, in writing, to my client, present a detailed document detailing the design brief/design offer/draft contract – detailing project deliverables/payments/payment terms/general terms & conditions, client and consultant expectations. I shall also ensure that my design practice/service has appropriate and effective internal administration and procedures to enable efficient project functionality.
As an Interior Design Professional I shall strive to keep my client informed of project progress by way of regular project reporting and shall make myself, within reasonable parameters, contactable at all times.

In the event of dispute I shall strive to address the issue with an objective and professional approach such to resolve to a mutual agreeable outcome. Should justified compensation and or refund of monies be warranted I shall repay these without objection.

As an Interior Design professional I shall not reveal any information about a client, a client’s intention(s), or a client’s production method(s) which I or my employees have been asked to maintain in confidence, or which could reasonably be recognised as likely if disclosed, to affect the interests of the client adversely. Notwithstanding the above, as an Interior Design professional I may reveal such information to the extent I reasonably believe is necessary (1) to stop any act which creates a significant risk to public health and safety and which I or my employees are unable to prevent in any other manner; or (2) to prevent any violation of applicable law.

 

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY TO OTHER INTERIOR DESIGNERS & COLLEAGUES:

As an Interior Design Professional I shall execute my professional tasks and activities with honesty, integrity and fairness, and with respect for other designers’ or colleagues’ contractual and professional relationships.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall not accept instruction from my clients which knowingly involves plagiarism, nor shall I consciously plagiarise another’s Interior Design Professionals work.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall only take credit for work that has actually been created by myself or a member or employee of my company under the mine or my company’s immediate direction and control.

As an Interior Design Professional employer I shall provide my employees with a suitable working environment, compensate them fairly and facilitate their professional development without hindrance.

 

6.0 RESPONSIBILITY TO THE DESIGN PROFESSION AND ITS ASSOCIATED RECOGNISED INDUSTRY BODIES:

As an Interior Design Professional I agree to maintain standards of professional and personal conduct that will reflect in a responsible manner on the profession.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall seek to continually upgrade my professional knowledge and competency with respect to the interior design profession & I shall do this via regular course and workshop industry related events/seminars.

Wherever possible, I as an Interior Design Professional shall encourage and contribute to the sharing of knowledge and information among interior designers, the interior design industry, and the general public.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall whenever feasible and ethical, and with my clients permission and support, if applicable, offer support, encouragement, and information to students of interior design.

When representing the interior design profession, I as an Interior Design Professional will act in a manner that is in the best interests of the interior design profession, my professional colleagues and my employees.

As an Interior design Professional I shall only use Recognised Industry Associations and Body appellation in accordance with their current Association policy.

I as a responsible Interior Design Professional shall never knowingly make false statements or fail to disclose any material fact requested in connection with my application or applications for membership to any of the Recognised Industry Associations and or Governing Bodies.

 

7.0 PUBLICITY:

As an Interior Design Professional I am free to communicate or promote my, the work of my practice and my employees expertise and experience.

Any advertising or publicity material must contain only truthful factual statements and be released with the consent of my client if so required. It shall be fair to my clients and other designers, and in accordance with the dignity and integrity of the interior design profession.

As an Interior Design Professional I shall only promote professional works or activities as designed by myself, my practice and or my employee and/or my collaborators. I shall not accept that my name is connected with the realisation of a design that has been changed in such a way that it is no longer essentially the original work of the interior architect.

As an Interior Design Professional I will only take part in or serve on the jury of competitions when these are held in compliance with national and international rules as approved by the Recognised Industry Professional Interior Design organisations. Submissions as such will only be with prior request of the client if required.
